Fallout and Flowers

Synopsis

Fallout and Flowers is a groundbreaking film that delves into the tragic effects of nuclear testing on U.S. soil, an event that still reverberates almost eighty years later. In this moving film, filmmaker Megan Newbold explores her family's history and the impact that the event had on her family and the people of Southern Utah. The result is a deeply affecting exploration of the connection between family, land, and the consequences of our actions.

Directors Statement

My name is Megan Newbold, and I am making a documentary on how radiation from the Nevada Test Site affected my family. My family is from a small town near Filmore, Utah called Kanosh. The nuclear fallout blew in, and my great grandpa died from Aplastic Anemia, my great grandma died from Leukemia and my great uncle died from Melanoma. I never met them.

Growing up, I heard stories about my family, who I had never met and never would. These stories were told to my cousins and I by my grandpa at sleepovers. They came in the form of cookies made by mom from her grandma's recipe. They were the pictures on the walls and flowers left in the cemetery.

This documentary is a way for me to tell their stories as well as mine, and show the world the devastation the Nevada Test Site raged on my family as well as countless others. They will not be forgotten.
